The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) is proud to announce its new “Tenugui Design Contest”, a design contest open to Malaysians aged 18 and above and accepting submissions from 1st to 31st October 2021.
Tenugui is a traditional Japanese towel that has been a staple of Japanese homes and used for a variety of purposes from everyday uses, statement pieces to decorations and as well as reusable gift wraps.
Following the success of the “Furoshiki Design Contest” held in February 2021, JFKL once again aims to unearth and showcase new creative talents in Malaysia through the creation of Tenugui designs that incorporate diverse Malaysian and Japanese cultural elements.
The judges for this contest are:
- Assistant Professor Dr Debbie Gan Siew Siew
Deputy Dean, First City University College
- Nik Faiz Nik Amin
Founder and Creative Director of Gahara
- Nini Marini
Artist & Creative Entrepreneur
We are looking forward to seeing original fusion designs that feature imaginative and unique Malaysian and Japanese cultural combinations.
